10.1. Settings

The settings for Fonts, Mouse, Keyboard, etc., can be changed from Utilities > Settings >


10.1.1. Fonts

Set the text of different global controls/graphics:




  1. Control- Changes the text fonts of the OpendTect window.

  2. Graphics large/medium/small- Changes the fonts of large/medium/small graphics within certain windows e.g. survey box.
  3. Small/Large Controls- Changes the fonts of small/large controls within specific windows e.g. the small controls (the text describing inline/crossline/Z-ranges or bin size) of survey selection window.
Clicking any of the function buttons will pop up a standard font-selection window.

10.1.2. Look and Feel

The Look and Feel option is used to change standard settings of OpendTect icon size, color bar orientation, toggling shading & volume rendering on/off.

10.1.3. Mouse controls

Set mouse button functions. System administrators can implement user-defined mouse button actions. See the Application Management Documentation for details.

10.1.4. Keyboard Shortcuts

Define custom keyboard shortcuts to move slice forward/backward. Set either one key (set first key to no-button) or a combine control/shift key with another key of choice from the list.

10.1.5. Advanced

The ADVANCED user settings changes the default settings of specific keywords. Specify settings and/or setup or edit the Survey default settings.



The settings can be found in the .od/ directory from the user home directory. Depending on the platform used, this is located in:
To list the type of current Personal and/or Survey settings, type l ~/.od/*DTECT_USER* in Linux console.

The following files are used to store the Personnal settings:

10.1.5.1. Personal Settings

Update Personal Settings by specifying a keyword (a variable name) and its value. The list pops up by pressing the Select existing button in the Set Personal Settings dialog (see below). A brief description on the available variables (and the values) is given below:



Note: Most of the changes are updated after restarting the OpendTect, other are activated instantly.

Pre-defined Keywords:
Press Select existing button to bring up pre-defined keywords. After selection of any variable, the values should be updated. The values are updated by pressing 'OK' button.

10.1.5.2. Survey defaults

This option enables the user to setup/edit the Survey default settings
